More Old Fashioned Jokes, Poems, and Stories

Here are some more jokes, poems, and stories that my coworker Paul had shared with us all in the office.

The couple had been debating the purchase of a new auto for weeks. He
wanted a new truck. She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could
zip through traffic around town.
He would probably have settled on any beat up old truck, but everything she
seemed to like was way out of their price range.
"Look!" she said. I want something that goes from 0 to 200 in 4 seconds or
less. "And my birthday is coming up. You could surprise me."
For her birthday, he bought her a brand new bathroom scale.

Services are pending.....

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting, "I'm clean living."
I'm whispering, "I was lost,
now, I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble,
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak,
and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed,
and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are far too visible,
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches,
so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou.
I'm just a simple sinner,
who received God's good grace, somehow!

Christians - By Maya Angelou

GOD PROTECTS HIS OWN

A testimony from Indonesia: 400 Christians saved from destruction

We know that 80% of the town of Meulaboh in Aceh was destroyed by the tsunami waves and 80% of the people also died. This is one of the towns that was hit the hardest. But there is a fantastic testimony from Meulaboh.

In that town are about 400 Christians. They wanted to celebrate Christmas on December 25th but were not allowed to do so by the Muslims of Meulaboh. They were told if they wanted to celebrate Christmas, they needed to go outside the city of Meulaboh on a high hill and there celebrate Christmas. Because the Christians desired to celebrate Christmas, the 400 believers left the city on December 25th and after they celebrated Christmas, they stayed overnight on the hill.

As we all know, on the morning of December 26, there was the earthquake followed by the tsunami waves destroying most of the city of Meulaboh and thousands were killed. The 400 believers were on the mountain and were all saved from destruction.

Now the Muslims of Meulaboh are saying that the God of the Christians punished them for forbidding the Christians from celebrating Christmas in the city. Others are questioning why so many Muslims died while not even one of the Christians died there. Had the Christians insisted on their rights to celebrate Christmas in the city, they would have all died. But because they humbled themselves and followed the advice of the Muslims, they all were spared destruction and can now testify of God's marvelous protection.

This is a testimony of the grace of God and the fact that as believers we have no rights in the world. Our right is to come before God and commit our lives to Him. Our right is kneeling down before the Lord Almighty and commit our ways to Him. He is our Father and is very capable to care for His children.

Praise the Name of the Lord.

"By faith Abraham, when called to a place he would later receive as an inheritance, OBEYED and went, even though he did not know where he was going."
Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)

I just received this. I don't know if it is accurate or not. Maybe you do.

IRAQ - VERY INTERESTING - DID YOU KNOW ?

1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization.

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq.

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is southern Iraq.

6. Isaac's wife, Rebekah, is from Nahor, which is in Iraq.

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9.Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq.

11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq.

13. The 3 Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had, also, as the 4th person in the fiery furnace.

14. Belzhazzar, the King of Babylon, saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq.

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq.

And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But, do you know which nation is 2nd? It's Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, & Mesopotamia. The word, Mesopotamia means between the 2 rivers, more exactly between the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq means "Country with Deep Roots".

Indeed, Iraq is a country with deep roots & is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel, has more history & prophecy associated with it than Iraq.

And here's something to think about! Since America is represented by an eagle, Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages.....

The following verse is from the Koran (the Islamic Bible)...

Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah & lo, while some of the people trembled in despair, still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was Peace.

(Note the verse number!)

Senator John Glenn

WHAT SENATOR JOHN GLENN SAID:

Things that make you think a little........

1. There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during January.... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq

2. When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:
      a. FDR...led us into World War II.
      b. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. >From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
      c. Truman...finished that war and started one in Korea North Korea never attacked us.
>From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.
      d. John F. Kennedy. ..started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
      e. Lyndon Johnson...turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
>From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.
     f. Clinton…went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
       g. In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chapaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

But Wait, there's more......................

JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR)
Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13

Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living.

This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook Howard, it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank."

"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look those men - with their mangled bodies - in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember and you watch those waving flags.

You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you Howard Metzenbaum, you should be on your knees ***** day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a dedication to duty - that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible. I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"

For those who don't remember - During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating....

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.
No, he responded.

Heading out I asked?
No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?
No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq. I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.
Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign."
Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for
$1.58. The counter girl took my $2. I was digging
for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She
stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen
on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give
me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to
explain the
transaction to her, she stood there and cried.

Why do I tell you this?

Because of the evolution in teaching math since the

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was

not in their bed. She puts on her robe and downstairs to look for him.

She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front

of him. He appears deep in thought, just staring at the

wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of

coffee. "What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the

room, "Why are you down here at this time of night?".

The husband looks up, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we

were dating, and you were only 16?" he asks solemnly. The wife is

touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and sensitive.

"Yes, I do" she replies. The husband pauses. The words are not

coming easily. "Do you remember when your father caught us in the back

seat of my car making love?"

"Yes, I! remember" says the wife, lowering herself into a chair

beside him. The husband continues...

"Do you remember when he shoved a shotgun in my face and said,

Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20

years?'" "I remember that too" she replies softly.

He wipes another tear from his cheek and says..."I would have

gotten out today."

Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and
tried to light it?

Did you know his trial is over?
Did you know he was sentenced?
Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV/Radio?
Didn't think so.
Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.
Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to
say.

His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record, Reid
also admitted his "allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the
religion of Allah," defiantly stated "I think I will not apologize for my
actions," and told the court "I am at war with your country."

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid. Judge Young:
"Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon
you. On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the
custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the
Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on
each count to run consecutive with the other.

That's 80 years. On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30
years consecutive to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you
each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 for the aggregate fine of $2
million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with respect to
restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre
Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines. The Court imposes upon you the
$800 special assessment.

The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because
the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I
need go no further. This is the sentence that is provided for by our
statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.
Let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your
terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through
the fire before. There is all too much war talk here and I say that to
everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with
individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human
beings, we reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a
soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call
you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether it is the officers of
government who do it or your attorney who does it, or if you think you are a
soldier. You are not----- you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with
terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with
terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But
you are not that big. You're no warrior. I've know warriors. You are a
terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted
murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you
first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the
press and where the TV crews were and he said: "You're no big deal."

You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys
have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to
grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you
here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to
search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to
do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing. And I have an
answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record,
it comes as close to understanding as I know.

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You
hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as
we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we
individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carry freedom. It
carry it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize
individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom. So
that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly,
individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are
striving so vigorously on your behalf and have filed appeals, will go on in
their representation of you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we
treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake
though. It is yet true that we will bare any burden; pay any price, to
preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world
is not going to long remember what you or I say here. Day after tomorrow, it
will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure. Here in this
courtroom and courtrooms all across America, the American people will gather
to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual
justice is in fact being done. The very President of the United States
through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence
on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather
to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine
our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America.
That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands
for freedom. And it always will.

Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.

So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need
more judges like Judge Young, but that's another subject. Pass this around.
Everyone should and needs to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful
words that strike home.

God bless America

Please forward this---------so that every American has a chance to read
it.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
  HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE ROOM HOUSE MADE OF
  PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
  WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
  AND TO SEE JUST WHO
  IN THIS HOVEL DID LIVE.
  I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
  NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
  NOT EVEN A TREE.
  NO STOCKING ON MANTLE,
  JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
  ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
  OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
  WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
  AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
  A SOBERING THOUGHT
  CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
  FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
  IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A GYRENE,
  ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
  THE WARRIOR LAY SLEEPING,
  SILENT, ALONE,
  CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
  IN THIS DANK LITTLE HOME.
  THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
  THE ROOM STARK AND CLEAN
NOT AT ALL HOW I PICTURED
  A U.S. MARINE
WAS THIS ONE OF THE HEROES,
  OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
  CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
  THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
  I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
  THAT I'D SEEN THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE WARRIORS,
  WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
  SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
  THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
  AND FREE MEN WOULD CELEBRATE
  A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
  WE'VE ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
  EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
  BECAUSE OF THE WARRIORS,
  LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
  I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
  HOW MANY SLEEP ALL ALONE,
  THIS COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
  THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
  I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
  AND STARTED TO CRY.
  THE MARINE AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
  "e; SANTA DON'T CRY,
  THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
  I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
AND I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
  MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
  MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."e;
  THIS WARRIOR ROLLED OVER
  AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
  I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
  I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
  I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
  SO SILENT AND STILL
  AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
  FROM THE BITTER NIGHT CHILL.
  I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
  ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
  THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
  SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
  THIS GYRENE SAT UP,
AND WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
  WHISPERED, "e; CARRY ON SANTA,
  IT'S CHRISTMAS, & ALL IS SECURE."e;
  ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
  "e; MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
  AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."e;
This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can?
Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service
men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's
try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop
and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for
  us.

THE NEW BRONZE STATUE IN IRAQ.......

THIS IS GREAT! And something every American should see. Be sure to read the information below.....

This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped home and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood,Texas.

The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad.

Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors. Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months.

To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.

Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news? Because it is heart warming and praise worthy. The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect that a flashed breast or controversy of politics does. But we can do something about it. We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military who is making a difference. Thank you!!

Send this to everyone in your address book! Pray for and support our military men and women!

RED MARBLES

Babs Miller was bagging some early potatoes for me. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas.

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller and the ragged boy next to me.

"Hello Barry, how are you today?"

"H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas . sure look good."

"They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?"

"Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time."

"Good. Anything I can help you with?"

"No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas."

"Would you like to take some home?"

"No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with."

"Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?"

"All I got's my prize marble here."

"Is that right? Let me see it."

"Here 'tis She's a dandy."

"I can see that. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?"

"Not zackley but almost."

"Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble."

"Sure will Thanks Mr. Miller."

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile she said, "There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, perhaps."

I left the stand smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Florida, but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering.

Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in Rhode Island and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died. They were having his viewing that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts .. all very professional looking.

They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket.

Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and mentioned the story she had told me about the marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket.

"Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about! They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim "traded" them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size ... they came to pay their debt."

"We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world," she confided, "but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho."

With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.

Moral: We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds.

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.

Today, I wish you a day of ordinary miracles... . A fresh pot of coffee you didn't make yourself. An unexpected phone call from an old friend. Green stoplights on your way to work. The fastest line at the grocery store. A good sing-along song on the radio. Your keys right where you left them.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, An hour to appreciate them, A day to love them, But an entire life to forget them.

Send this to the people you'll never forget. If you don't send it to anyone, it means you are in too much of a hurry.

This sounds like my kinda guy. If I am on the outside.

AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 = years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you agree, pass this on. If not, just delete it.

Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona

"FOOD FOR THOUGHT - SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM"

A SHORT HISTORY LESSON:

The Social Security (FICA) program was inplemented by Franklin D. Roosevelt, a democrat.

The following promises were a part of the program;

     1. Participation would be voluntary.

     2. Participants would only have to contribute 1% of the first $1400.00 of their annual income.

     3. The money contributed would be deductible from their income for the federal income tax.

     4. The contributions would be placed in an independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the

"General Operating Fund" and only used to fund the "Social Security Retirment Program"

and not any other government programs.

     5. The annuities paid to retirees would never be taxable as income.

Following are changes to the Social Security (FICA) program which have taken place over the

years and who was responsible;

     1. Social Security was moved from an independent "Trust Fund" to the "General Operating

Fund" by President Lyndon B. Johnson and a democratically controlled House and Senate.

     2. The federal income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholdings were eliminated

           the democratically controlled Congress.

     3. Paying taxes on Social Security annuities (payments back to participants) were begun by

the Senate with Vice President Al Gore casting the tie breaking vote as President of the Senate.

     4. Social Security payments were granted to immigrants at age 65 even though they had not

paid into the system by President Jimmy Carter and the democratically controlled Congress.

After all these changes to the original promises of the Social Security System by the democrats over

the years, they now turn around and try to accuse the Republicans of wanting to do away with it. The

worst part of it is that too many of uninformed citizens believe it.

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions this 2004 election year! Forward this on to as many

friends as possible and let's try to spread the word and the truth about the other side. This election

is too important to not work or vote. Encourage everyone to exercise their responsibility in citizenship.

Let's re-elect President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for another term and support

all our local and state-wide republicans.

2008 Election Issue!!

This must be an issue in "2008 ". Please! Keep it going.

----------------------------------
SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth reading. It is short and to the point)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a Special Plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own Benefit Plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they
continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.

Younger Dignitaries, who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives. Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA... ZILCH....

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds; "OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, -every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer) - we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. That change would be to:

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us.
then sit back . . . . . . and watch how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.
How many people can you send this to?

Better yet . . . . . How many people WILL you send this to? ?

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.

"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.

"The box is gone," he said

"What box?" Mom asked.

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.

"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.

Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:

"Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."

"The thing he valued most...was...my time"

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.

"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.

"Oh, by the way, Janet...thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3 A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

4 Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

5. You mean the world to someone.

6. If not for you, someone may not be living.

7. You are special and unique.

8. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

11. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

12. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

13. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you'll both be happy.

14. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

Send this letter to all the people you care about, if you do so, you will certainly brighten someone's day and might change their perspective on life...for the better.

To everyone I sent this to "Thanks for your time"

To Meet Such A Man

I sat, with two friends, in the picture window of a quaint restaurant just off the corner of the town-square. The food and the company were both especially good that day. As we talked, my attention was drawn across the street. There, walking into town, was a man who appeared to be carrying all his worldly goods on his back. He was carrying, a well-worn sign that read, "I will work for food." My heart sank. I brought him to the attention of my friends and noticed that others around us had stopped eating to focus on him.

Heads moved in a mixture of sadness and disbelief. We continued with our meal, but his image lingered in my mind. We finished our meal and went our separate ways. I had errands to do and quickly set out to accomplish them. I glanced toward the town square, looking somewhat halfheartedly for the strange visitor. I was fearful, knowing that seeing him again would call some response.

I drove through town and saw nothing of him. I made some purchases at a store and got back in my car. Deep within me, the Spirit of God kept speaking to me: "Don't go back to the office until you've at least driven once more around the square." Then with some hesitancy, I headed back into town. As I turned the square's third corner, I saw him. He was standing on the steps of the store front church, going through his sack. I stopped and looked; feeling both compelled to speak to him, yet wanting to drive on. The empty parking space on the corner seemed to be a sign from God: an invitation to park. I pulled in, got out and approached the town's newest visitor.

Looking for the pastor?" I asked. "Not really," he replied, "just resting." "Have you eaten today?" "Oh, I ate something early this morning." "Would you like to have lunch with me?" "Do you have some work I could do for you?" "No work," I replied. "I commute here to work from the city, but I would like to take you to lunch." "Sure," he replied with a smile.

As he began to gather his things, I asked some surface questions. Where you headed?" "St. Louis. "Where you from?" "Oh, all over; mostly Florida." "How long you been walking?" "Fourteen years," came the reply. I knew I had met someone unusual. We sat across from each other in the same restaurant I had left earlier. His face was weathered slightly beyond his 38 years. His eyes were dark yet clear, and he spoke with an eloquence and articulation that was startling. He removed his jacket to reveal a bright red T-shirt that said,
"Jesus is The Never Ending Story."

Then Daniel's story began to unfold. He had seen rough times early in life. He'd made some wrong choices and reaped the consequences. Fourteen years earlier, while backpacking across the country, he had
stopped on the beach in Daytona. He tried to hire on with some men who were putting up a large tent and some equipment. A concert, he thought. He was hired, but the tent would not house a concert but revival services, and in those services he saw life more clearly. He gave his life over to God. "Nothing's been the same since," he said, "I felt the Lord telling me to keep walking, and so I did, some 14 years now." "Ever think of stopping?" I asked. "Oh, once in a while, when it seems to get the best of me. But God has given me this calling. I give out Bibles. That's what's in my sack.

”I work to buy food and Bibles, and I give them out when His Spirit leads." I sat amazed. My homeless friend was not homeless. He was on a mission and lived this way by choice. The question burned inside for a moment and then I asked: "What's it like?" "What?" "To walk into a town carrying all your things on your back and to show your sign?" "Oh, it was humiliating at first. People would stare and make comments. Once someone tossed a piece of half-eaten bread and made a gesture that certainly didn't make me feel welcome. But then it became humbling to realize that God was using me to touch lives and change people's
concepts of other folks like me." My concept was changing, too.

We finished our dessert and gathered his things. Just outside the door, he paused. He turned to me and said, "Come Ye blessed of my Father and inherit the kingdom I've prepared for you. For when I was hungry you gave me food, when I was thirsty you gave me drink, a stranger and you took me in" I felt as if we were on holy ground. "Could you use another Bible?" I asked. He said he preferred a certain translation. It traveled well and was not too heavy. It was also his personal favorite. "I've read through it 14 times," he said. "I'm not sure we've got one of those, but let's stop by our church and see." I was able to find my new friend a Bible that would do well, and he seemed very grateful.

"Where are you headed from here?" I asked. "Well, I found this little map on the back of this amusement park coupon." "Are you hoping to hire on there for awhile?" "No, I just figure I should go there. I figure someone under that star right there needs a Bible. That's where I'm going next." He smiled, and the warmth of his spirit radiated the sincerity of his mission. I drove him back to the town-square where we'd met two hours earlier, and as we drove, it started raining. We parked and unloaded his things. "Would you sign my autograph book?" he asked. "I like to keep messages from folks I meet." I wrote in his little book that his commitment to his calling had touched My life. I encouraged him to stay strong. And I left him with a verse of scripture from Jeremiah, "I know the plans I have for you, "declared the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope." "Thanks, man," he said.

"I know we just met and we're really just strangers, but I love you." "I know," I said, "I love you, too." "The Lord is good! "Yes, He is. How long has it been since someone hugged you?" I asked. "A long time," he replied. And so on the busy street corner in the drizzling rain, my new friend and I embraced, and I felt deep inside that I had been changed. He put his things on his back, smiled his winning smile and said, "See you in the New Jerusalem." "I'll be there!" was my reply.

He began his journey again. He headed away with his sign dangling from his bedroll and pack of Bibles. He stopped, turned and said, "When you see something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?" "You bet," I shouted back, "God bless." "God bless." And that was the last I saw of him.

Late that evening as I left my office, the wind blew strong. The cold front had settled hard upon the town. I bundled up and hurried to my car. As I sat back and reached for the emergency brake, I saw them... a pair of well-worn brown work gloves neatly laid over the length of the handle I picked them up and thought of my friend and wondered if his hands
would stay warm that night without them. Then I remembered his words: "If you see something that makes you
think of me, will you pray for me?" Today his gloves lie on my desk in my office. They help me to see the world and its people in a new way, and they help me remember those two hours with my unique friend and to pray for his ministry. "See you in the New Jerusalem," he said Yes, Daniel, I know I will...

Prayer is one of the best gifts we receive. Let's continue to pray for one another. God bless and have a nice day! "Father, I ask you to bless my friends, relatives. Show them a new revelation of your love and power Holy spirit, I ask you to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them your peace and mercy. Where
there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through your grace, In Jesus' precious Name. Amen."

Prayer wheel for our Military...please don't break it

Please send this on after a short prayer.
Prayer wheel for our soldiers...please don't break it

Prayer Wheel
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they
protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they
perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our
Lord and Savior. Amen."

Prayer Wheel: When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a
prayer for our troops around the world.

There is nothing attached.... This can be very powerful.... Just send this to all the
people in your address book. Do not stop the wheel, please...
Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine &others deployed in harm's way,

Prayer is the very best one.

The following passage is from a sermon by John Hagee of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio:

I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands though, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this...

I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it.

I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains!

I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business.

I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people.

It's the soldier, not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.

It's the soldier, not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.

It's the soldier, not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.

It's the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen."

Prayer Wheel: When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our U.S. forces in Iraq, AND all around the world. There is nothing attached.... This can be very powerful... Just send this to all the people in your address book. Do not stop the wheel, please....

Of all the gifts you could give a U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coast Guardsman, Prayer is the very best one.....

Reply:

Dear Concerned Student:

I am not allowed in schools.

Sincerely,

God

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained she didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK...

------------------

Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave

because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said, an expert should know what he's talking about so we won't spank them anymore.. by the way did you know his son committed suicide

------------------

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children

when they misbehave. And the school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

------------------

Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea...

------------------

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said, it doesn't matter what anybody, including the President, does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good...

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them available on the Internet.

we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

------------------

And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said, it's just entertainment and it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead...

-------------------

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

------------------

Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with.!!..

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"

------------------

Pass it on if you think it has merit! If not then just discard it.

This is good!!! Ask yourself the question of "would you run" after you read this!!!

Would you run?

Imagine this happening to you...

One Sunday morning during service, a 2,000 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carrying submachine guns.

One of the men proclaimed,

"Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are."

Immediately the choir fled...the deacons fled...
and most of the congregation fled.... Out of the 2,000, there only remained around 20.

The man who had spoken took off his hood...
He then looked at the preacher and said

"Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites... Now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!"

And the two men turned and walked out.

I know, I know, you've heard this joke a thousand times.

But the next part really made me think.

TOO DEEP TO NOT PASS ON..

*Funny how simple it is for people to trash God .....

and then wonder why the world is in the condition it is today....

*Funny how we believe what the newspapers say...

but question what the Bible says...

*Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven...

provided they do not have to believe, think, say, or do anything the Bible says.

or is it scary?

*Funny how someone can say "I believe in God"...

but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also "believes"in God).

*Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire...

but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, you think twice about sharing.

*Funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace...

but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and work place.

*Funny, isn't it? Funny how someone can be so fired up for Christ on Sunday...

but be an invisible Christian the rest of the week.

Are you laughing?

*Funny how when you go to forward this message...

you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe...

or what they will think of you for sending it to them.

*Funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me...

... than what God thinks of me.

Are you thinking?

Will you share this with people you care about?

Or not?

I picked you~

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

May the Lord make His face to shine upon you, And be gracious to you;

May the Lord lift up His favour upon you

And give you His peace.

THIS IS A GOOD MESSAGE PASS IT ON 2 FRIENDS AND FAMILY
